This year, 2023, marks the 175th anniversary of the Town of Schuyler Falls as a township. The New York State legislature, on April 4, 1848, ‘erected’ the town as separate from the town of Plattsburgh. Parts of the town were settled much earlier – by 1794 on the Salmon River, and by the early 1800’s all along the Saranac River and the areas nearby.
To celebrate this milestone, many events are being planned throughout this anniversary year. From Friday August 11 through Sunday August 20, will be a big part of the commemoration, with a parade on Saturday August 12, festival at the town hall and parks, presentations, demonstrations, and ceremonies. A commemorative booklet is planned with history, business listings and more.
Details & planning meetings are being scheduled for mid-late March. Volunteers and ideas are needed. To participate, contribute or assist, email the town historian’s office at [email protected] or leave a message at 518-563-1129, x 8 or x1-4547.
